Pijarskie Liceum Królowej Pokoju
Our school is a part of a school complex consisting of primary , lower and upper-secondary schools. It was established 16 years ago by the Piarist order in the town of Łowicz, located between two main Polish cities: Warsaw and Łódź. Currently, there are altogether 7 piarist schools in Poland which cooperate closely in different projects. It is the only catholic school in
the area which pays equal attention to both high level of education and proper religious upbringing. All these are deeply rooted in rich traditions and customs of the region, which are lively cultivated by each generation of local people. Many of our students wearing traditional regional costumes perform folk dances and music typical for the rural area of Łowicz,
promoting our regional culture in the country and abroad. On everyday basis, our students express their identification with the local culture by wearing uniforms with elements of a traditional costume from Łowicz. Strong identification with the roots helps to develop national patriotism which is clearly visible through actions and performances organised by our students during national festivals and catholic celebrations. The school prepares students to higher education at universities (humanic/social sciences) or higher technical schools(technological/scientific sciences) mainly in bigger cities. There are no students whose parents are immigrants as there are generally almost no immigrant among the local community.
Nevertheless, there is higher than in non-catholic schools percentage of students from single-parent families, which parents
need more support in upbringing their children and they receive it here. The organization was established by the piarist
who built our school and now works with teenagers from socially inefficient families from Łódź.
To sum up, changes in women and men's roles in a sociely are happening on a global scale but the consequences of these
changes are also visible locally in each average family. Helping the students to understand the process, get familiar with it,
analyze it from different perspectives (how it undergoes in different countries) can prove to be crucial when they come of
age and start themselves to set the directions of the changes. Thanks to the project the students from Pijarskie LO in
£owicz will also get support in practising English in realistic conditions discussing topics of their interest in an international
environment.
